Too many believers are simply wandering through life like zombie-Christians! The word of God is stifled in their life by the cares of this world; the Spirit of God is quenched as they return to the dead-things of sin; and the Steps of the Master are no longer followed, as they are led away by their own selfish and sinful desires.

This lifeless existence is not the expectation of our Lord for those He has redeemed; for He surely meant it when he said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” It is the will of Him who saved us from death that we should live vibrantly and passionately, serving the Master from the heart.

Rather than existing in the deadness of our sinful flesh, the Bible calls us to “put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”

So the question we are called to examine this month is whether we are dead to Christ or dead to sin? Are we wandering away from Christ, or are we truly living for Jesus, serving Him out of love for all He has done for us?
